New Laboratory Building for the PNG Institute of Medical Research (IMR)
A&L were appointed by the PNGIMR to provide architectural and engineering design, documentation and contract administration services for the construction of new PNGIMR laboratory facilities in Madang, PNG.
The new Laboratory building replaced the IMR’s aged, unfunctional and unsafe facilities at Yaguam and will become become the primary vector borne disease research facility in PNG, with a focus on malaria and filariasis. The new 3000sqm laboratory facilities are designed to international PC2 standard and provide a mix of facilities to support laboratory & clinical testing and research, field work, education, training, administration, project grants, funding and other activities to support the operation of the PNGIMR.
Design activities were supported by a Laboratory Operations Specialist who advised on the incorporation of appropriate technologies and laboratory processes.All work was designed to comply with Australian and international laboratory standards.
