Alexander & Lloyd Group

This project commenced in late 1994 and provided The Vanuatu Forestry Department with office accommodation and staff housing in Port Vila and a number of isolated locations throughout the island group.

Alexander and Lloyd project managed the works and provided full architectural services including feasibility, design, documentation, contract administration and construction supervision.

The governing design criteria were sustainability, low maintenance and low cost. The buildings (both office and houses) incorporated envirionmentally sustainable design (ESD) techniques such as large eave overhangs, through ventilation, large internal volumes, low mass materials and the like. Wet areas were constructed in masonry to achieve longevity of use.
